Title:  Director of Education Technology Platforms
Reports to:  VP of Innovation

Location: Remote - Salt Lake City, UT preferred

Job Summary

The Director of Education Technology Platform is part of the Product Development Team in the FranklinCovey Education division. This person reports to the VP of Innovation and leads a team to build and manage a digital platform that enables the Leader in Me and LeaderU businesses to deliver impact at scale.

The Director of Education Technology Platform plays a key role in enabling a “digital first” strategy that honors and enhances the significance of our content and experiences while using technology to make them accessible to millions of people in a global community.

Essential Job Functions

  • Leads a team of high-performing individuals helping each feel that they are a “valued member of a winning team doing meaningful work in an environment of trust.”
  • Collaborates with other leaders about our business and product strategy including providing technology options to shape and accelerate that strategy.
  • Establishes and maintains high-trust relationships with key external partners including software developers, designers, partners, and other specialists as needed.
  • Negotiates contracts and ensures delivery of contracted services.
  • Ensures that all IT, security, legal, privacy, and contractual requirements are met on the platform.
  • Aligns systems to work in a unified way with content developers on a coordinated roadmap to improve our product.
  • Cultivates synergy in relationships with other departments at FranklinCovey including marketing, IT, coaching, sales, and others.
  • Ensures effective development processes and systems. Provides transparency into workflow, project statuses, and measures progress using compelling dashboards.
  • Keeps current on technology trends and issues and proactively recommends improvements to the team.
  • Thinks globally and makes decisions that benefit our business both domestically and internationally.
  • Prioritizes an excellent client experience and delightful user interface.
  • Looks for opportunities to simplify and streamline. Makes hard decisions to say no to complexity to keep focus on the most important.

Job Requirements

  • 7-10 years' experience leading technology development.
  • 3+ years experience leading a team of product managers, software developers, or a similar team.
  • Strong understanding of all facets of platform development including collaborative design, UI/UX, requirements documentation, Ruby on Rails development, QA and user acceptance testing, client success, technical support, etc.
  • Skilled at translating business needs and strategy to technical capabilities and communicating key technical information to executives.
  • Experience with education technology including LMS, LXP, and CMS plus API integrations with SIS, SSO, and other school systems.
  • Demonstrated client-centric approach to gathering feedback, testing, and improving digital products or services.
  • A proven ability to organize and manage large-scale projects involving multiple deliverables.
  • A track record of negotiating win-win contracts with vendors and partners.

 Preferred Skills/Education

  • Master’s degree in a technical field
  • Experience in PreK-12 Education industry
  • Experience with The Leader in Me process
  • Agile certification
