Job Summary

We provide relatable, actionable advice on the most important management, communication, and interpersonal business issues. This requires careful, thorough research and nuanced writing about how people behave.

You’ll be part of our research and content team, responsible for becoming a knowledge leader on new topics and writing (in collaboration with our editors) comprehensive skills guides. This can mean spending months delving into a single, fascinating topic, gathering and analyzing all of the information — including desk research, interviews with managers, and insights from our staff ethnographer — and writing clear, concise articles delivering key lessons, how tos, common mistakes new managers make and common problems they face.

This is an extremely demanding role intellectually. If you’re the type who loves to go deep on a topic, explore its nooks and crannies, then extract the essentials to a relatively simple (but never simplistic!) package, then you’ll probably like it here. We’re not a content farm, and we give researchers and writers the time and direction they need to do it right.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collect and analyze a wide variety of information about management and workplace skills and behaviors (including reading academic papers, conducting interviews with practitioners and experts, and general lit reviews).
  • Structure insights into clear, concise advice for a carefully targeted (and frequently underrepresented) audience of new, frontline manager.
  • In collaboration with our editors, write a variety of articles typically between 1,000 - 3,000 words long.
  • Be a collaborative contributor to the future direction of our product and company.


Job Requirements

  • Understand the basics of good management and the day-to-day challenges a new manager faces — we need someone who can hit the ground running creating content with practical advice.
  • Must be interested in spending most of the next year focused on teamwork-related topics
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills and are able to balance multiple (often conflicting) points of view, identify assumptions and biases, formulate and maintain multiple hypotheses, draw accurate and logical inferences, and understand the implications of your reasoning.
  • Must be a critical consumer of information, able to separate the wheat from the chaff
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize volumes of complex information into nuggets of clarity
